President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared Thursday, 12 November 2026, an official Government holiday.
The decision was made to facilitate an extended break for Government employees during the holidays, as Republic Day, which falls on Wednesday, 11 November, is a public holiday.
The government would reopen on the 15th of November after a 4-day break. This includes schools and government offices, as well as some banks.
Republic Day (Jumhooree Dhuvas) in the Maldives is celebrated annually on November 11. It commemorates the historic day in 1968 when the country officially transitioned from a constitutional monarchy into a republic.
