The Defense of former Foreign Minister and the President of the main opposition party, MDP, Abdullah Shahid,, has filed an appeal at the High Court over his 30-day remand after he was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a minor.
The appeal was filed yesterday. However, it is not clear whether or not the High Court has accepted the appeal.
Police said in a statement on Monday night that Shahid had been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 18.
He was taken to Dhoonidhoo jail that night and later remanded in custody for 30 days.
In a post on 'X' shortly before his arrest, Shahid said these were politically motivated lies to slander his character.
He also asked people not to spread such unsubstantiated rumours.
