Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed says in the first 3 years of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government, the Maldives registered a record 313 foreign investments.

Responding to a no-confidence motion signed by 13 opposition MDP MPs, Saeed released statistics on foreign investments registered during the past governments.

He revealed that;

  • 2008-2013: 212 Investments
  • 2013-2018: 406 Investments
  • 2018-2022: 245 Investments
  • First 3 years of this government: 313 Investments.

The minister said the 313 investments brought in in the short period since November 17, 2023, were the result of the government's confidence and hard work.

The Economic Ministry will be an example in disclosing information, he said, adding that the state's money and property are being handled faithfully.

He also touched on the motion to dismiss him over the dollar rate issue. The Minister said that this government has issued dollars at the official rate at 80 percent more than the previous government.
