President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has dissolved the governing bodies of Malé City Group of Hospitals and five other hospitals and established the Maldives Tertiary Hospitals Group (MTHG) to strengthen the national healthcare system.

The decision aims to bring all Government-operated tertiary hospitals, as well as hospitals being developed into tertiary-level facilities, under a single governing body through a hybrid centralised administrative model.

The MTHG governing body will operate under the President's directives and remain accountable to the President. The Group will be affiliated with the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare.

The governing bodies of Malé City Group of Hospitals (MCGH), Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, Gan Regional Hospital, Dr Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital and Addu Equatorial Hospital have been dissolved under the decision.

Under the guidance of President Dr Muizzu, the Governing Board of MTHG and the operations of institutions under its oversight will be coordinated by the Principal Secretary to the President for Tertiary Health Services at the President’s Office.
