Immigration officials have detained more than 100 illegal immigrants living in Alifu Alifu Thoddu after a massive operation on the central island yesterday.
Maldives Immigration said that it carried out the operation in Thoddu following complaints from islanders about the issue of illegal immigrants on the island.
Immigration said it carried out the operation from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm and questioned 507 immigrants living on the island.
They also said that, out of the immigrants questioned, they detained 107 immigrants who were living on the island without proper documentation.
Maldives Immigration is carrying out weekly raids to weed out expatriates working illegally in the country, with hundreds of migrant workers deported in the last three years.
