Maldivian Authorities have seized a large sum of foreign currency from a group of outbound passengers from Velaana International Airport.
Police said that the group included 6 individuals and that Police seized foreign currency from 18 countries from these individuals.
They further said that the seized currency included USD 174,161 and EURO 56, 760 as well as 1,815 in British pounds.
Police said that the total value of the money is estimated at MVR 3.8 million.
Photos released by police showed him cutting cereal packets and taking money.
Police also said that the operation to arrest the 6 individuals was carried out by the joint task force set up to prevent illegal foreign currency exchange transactions and that the operation was carried out after a tip the task force had received.
All 6 individuals have been identified as Bangladeshi nationals.
