Police have arrested two foreigners for allegedly selling and dealing in liquor in Male'. Police said the individuals were arrested in an operation carried out last Sunday.
Police identified the suspects as 24-year-old Rokibul Hassan and 29-year-old MD Jarik Hossain. Both have also been identified as Bangladeshi nationals.
Police said that in the operation carried out by the Drug Enforcement Unit and the Counter Narcotics Unit, the two men were stopped while they were riding a motorcycle in Male' and were searched.
Police said that they searched their persons, the vehicle, as well as the apartment the suspects were living in, and recovered 17 bottles of liquor.
They noted that, upon completing the legal proceedings, the two suspects have now been handed over to the Maldives Immigration for action under the Immigration Act and that the vehicle they were riding has been towed.
Police added that they were further investigating the case.
