Police have launched an investigation after the former Deputy Minister Hassan Zihan called for an arson attack against the Supreme Court, the President's Office, and the Parliament building.

A media official from the Police said that a Facebook post by Zihan has been brought to their attention and that they are actively investigating the case.

Police did not give any more information about their investigation.

Zihan, who was also a First Lieutenant in the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), had questioned why Maldivians do not get to set the country's Supreme Court, President's Office, and Parliament Building on fire.

His post goes on to urge readers to set the buildings on fire and also adds that it would be fun to do so.

The former Deputy Minister deleted the post within an hour.

In a later post, he asked when these places were not on fire. He said the courts had been sold, members were attacking each other in parliament, and the leaders had sold the country.

Zihan, who was also the Deputy Minister of Transport in this government, has been critical of the government on social media since he was sacked.
