The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, in collaboration with Ooredoo Maldives Public Limited, has officially launched the “Ooredoo Masjidhuna" Initiative, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme aimed at supporting the renovation, maintenance, and improvement of mosques across the Maldives in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.

The initiative was formally launched at a press conference held in collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments and Ooredoo Maldives PLC, highlighting their joint commitment to strengthening religious infrastructure and supporting local communities.

The Ministry said that under the Masjidhuna Initiative, Ooredoo Maldives aims to support the renovation of five mosques annually across different regions of the country, with improvement works scheduled for completion ahead of Ramadan each year.

The programme seeks to ensure that mosques remain well-maintained, accessible and welcoming environments for worshippers during the holy month.

It also said that renovation activities will primarily focus on essential maintenance and minor improvements, including repainting walls, repairing damaged tiles, fixing doors and windows, upgrading lighting, and addressing other basic maintenance requirements to enhance the overall condition and functionality of mosque facilities.

The Ministry stated that the Masjidhuna Initiative reflects its continued efforts to strengthen public-private partnerships in advancing Islamic infrastructure development across the Maldives.

Through this collaboration, the Ministry and Ooredoo Maldives aim to support the sustainable upkeep of mosques while contributing to the well-being of communities and enhancing facilities for worshippers throughout the country.
