The families and the Community of 25 Indians captured while allegedly fishing in Maldivian waters have urged the Indian government to secure their release.
The Maldivian Coast Guard last night confirmed that 3 foreign vessels and their crew were captured for allegedly fishing in Maldivian territorial waters.
Indian media reported that the Indian vessels were forced to enter Maldivian waters due to high winds and strong sea currents.
Speaking to India's ANI network, a man named Sudarshan, who is the brother of one of the fishermen detained in the Maldives, said that they have been engaged in fishing since their childhoods and struggle hard to sustain their families through the occupation.
He said that the detention of the fishermen has caused significant loss for them.
The man appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene immediately and take appropriate steps to ensure the safe release of all 25 detained fishermen and the return of their three fishing boats.
