The Foreign Ministry says Thailand's new visa policy would allow Maldivians traveling to the country to stay there for 30 days without a visa.
The Ministry said that in May this year, the Thai government’s cabinet made major changes to the country’s visa policy, reducing the visa-free stay for tourists from 93 countries to less than 60 days.
It also said that, at the time, Maldivians traveling to Thailand were only allowed to stay in the country without a visa for 15 days. It noted that Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam called her Thai counterpart, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, in June and spoke about the issue.
The Ministry stated that when the Thai government announced its new visa policy back in July, it revised the visa-free stay for Maldivians from 15 days to 30 days.
It added that the new policy would go into effect starting the 15th of this month.
