President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge is more than infrastructure; it represents the trust, solidarity, and shared aspirations that bind the Maldives and China.

Marking the bridge's 8th anniversary, President Muizzu said in a post on 'X' that eight years ago today, the China–Maldives Friendship Bridge opened as a powerful symbol of the enduring friendship between our two nations, connecting our Capital, Malè, to the Airport and Hulhumalé.

The President said that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, our partnership continues to grow from strength to strength, creating new opportunities for our people and opening new horizons for our shared future.

He also reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to nurturing this everlasting friendship and building an even stronger partnership with China.

Earlier today, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the China-Maldives Everlasting Friendship Park today to commemorate the anniversary of the inauguration of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and National Engineers’ Day, which is observed in the Maldives today.

Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Kong Xianhua, accompanied the President along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Adam, and the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Dr Abdulla Muththalib.

Last year, the President designated 30 August as National Engineers’ Day, to be observed annually. The date was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the inauguration of the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, the largest infrastructure project undertaken in the nation’s history. He also announced that, beginning this year, the Government would introduce a National Engineers’ Award in recognition of the invaluable contributions made by engineers to national development.
