The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company, MIFCO, has increased the purchase price of Skipjack Tuna from fishermen by 1 MVR.
The Company said all of its fish purchase centers and boats will buy 1 kg of Skipjack Tuna for MVR 21 starting today.
With the price change, MIFCO has targeted to buy a total of 442 metric tonnes of fish from the northern, central and southern fishing areas of the country today.
MIFCO said the main purpose of the price change is to keep the company's prices in line with private traders' prices and to directly benefit fishermen across the country.
The last time MIFCO changed its fish purchase price was on June 14. The price was changed from MVR 18.00 per kg to MVR 20.00 per kg in line with changes in market conditions to ensure the right amount for the fishermen.
