The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) says Judge Abdullah Ihsan from the Civil Court was suspended as the Commission was investigating sexual harassment allegations made against him.
The JSC said in a press release that the decision to suspend Ihsan was taken after considering the investigative proceedings of a sexual harassment case filed against him.
In addition to taking Ihsan's statement, the commission has also sought the testimony of other persons required for the investigation.
The commission further said that, considering the nature of the case filed and the information available to the investigators, it appears that the investigation may be hampered if Ihsan remains in office, and that priority should be given to maintaining confidence in the judiciary.
This U-turn comes after the Commission initially denied reports that stated that the Commission was investigating the judge for misconduct and other allegations.
