Local media have reported a dangerous parasailing accident in Maafushi when the wing of the parasail broke mid-air due to strong winds.
The incident happened earlier this morning. A source from the island of Maafushi told this outlet that the incident occurred when the parasailers were lowering their parachute due to storm clouds.
The source also confirmed that two people were strapped in the parasail. Video circulating on social media shows one of the individuals strapped in the parasail falling onto the waters below while the other went up with the parasail.
Jet skiers in the area rescued the individual.
The source from the island said that the person did not suffer serious injuries in the fall. The two people in the parachute were wearing safety measures when the incident occurred.
