The Maldivian Police has issued a red notice through the International Police Agency, Interpol, to arrest a local man wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting a child.
The Interpol Red Notice is seeking Izyan Abdul Hameed, 38, of Faafu Nilandhoo.
The police investigation has so far revealed that Izyan left the Maldives after the report was filed. Police are conducting an international search for him as his whereabouts have not been identified since his departure.
Interpol issues red notices, with the assistance of international law enforcement agencies, to locate suspected criminals and facilitate their arrest through legal proceedings.
Such notices are issued to encourage the person to be located, wherever he may be in the world, arrested and brought back to the Maldives within the legal framework between the country and the Maldives for investigation or legal action.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and they will do everything necessary to find the culprits and bring them to justice.
