The newly elected Chairperson of the main opposition party, MDP, Mohamed Nasheed, has issued a stark warning to the ruling government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Speaking after his landslide victory in the MDP Chairperson election, the former President said that each country will experience a point in time when it can change from one reality to another, and that the Maldives was not at the pinnacle of such a point.
He called on all the rival parties in the political arena to work together to change the current government and hold the state accountable.
Nasheed said a large number of employees have been fired from various government companies and positions for supporting him during the election.
He warned the government that injustice to the people based on political ideology is unacceptable, and the injustice suffered by the people must be restored by today. His allegations have not been verified independently.
Nasheed further said that the MDP has always faced various challenges and dangers, but the MDP will never back down. He added that with this election, the MDP has become a party of ordinary members again, and it is not a party with the influence of any particular person.
Nasheed secured more than 67 percent of the votes from the MDP members who took part in the election.
